More than £6billion has been spent on asylum and refugee costs in Britain since 2020, a Reform UK MP has claimed, including £800,000 on furniture.

Rupert Lowe MP, who represents Great Yarmouth in the House of Commons, has said he has uncovered stats that prove a British version of the new United States Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) is needed “urgently”.

Mr Lowe posted on X today that he had been “doing some digging”, and found that “at least £6.6 ‘billion” has been spent by private organisations, departments, councils, the NHS and others on asylum and refugee costs since 2020.

This amounts to more than 200 contracts, he wrote, which he denounced as “bonkers”.

The MP then listed some examples, including £634,182 on a contract to “Support Migrants Currently Living in the Community Who Do Not Have Permission to Live in the UK”.

Mr Lowe added: “I asked the Home Office about this – 84 migrants participated”.

The member of Nigel Farage’s team also claimed that there had been an £800,000 contract for “Furnishings for Refugee Resettlement”, and £2,500,000 paid for an “Electronic Market Place for Kirklees Welcomes Assisting Vulnerable Migrants, Asylum Seekers and Refugees”.

He added: “There is so, so much more… It must ALL be uncovered. This is YOUR money. UK @DOGE needed, URGENTLY.”

It comes after it was reported by the Telegraph that asylum seekers and refugees are being lavished with yoga classes, circus classes, tickets to sports matches, and PlayStations, using public money.

The paper revealed that Conservative-run West Sussex Council spent over £800 on yoga sessions and PlayStation consoles and games for asylum seekers.

Mr Lowe savaged local authorities for the outlay. He said: “It is pure insanity. What message does this send to the millions looking to make the journey?

“No computer games, driving lessons, phones, laptops or whatever else. They should receive a one-way plane ticket.”
