Prolific politician basher Elon Musk has said “thank you Britain” after sharing the results of a poll on his X platform which showed a majority of people wanted him to get “involved” with British politics.

ITV breakfast show Good Morning Britain (GMB) had posted a poll with yes or no options on the social media site, with the caption: “Elon Musk has called for the release of Tommy Robinson and criticised the Prime Minister and Jess Phillips over the Rochdale scandal. He is also reportedly set to donate money to the Reform UK party. But should Elon Musk stay out of British politics?”

After more than 42,000 votes, the results of the GMB survey came in with 65.85% say they ‘no’ to Mr Musk staying out of British political discourse.

  • Elon Musk has lost the plot but this is why he’s actually done Nigel Farage a huge favour

The SpaceX founder retweeted the results after seeing a post from X user and journalist David Atherton, who had commented: “It looks like Good Morning Britain’s poll blew up in their face. Nearly two-thirds of Brits welcome Elon Musk’s involvement in UK politics”.

It’s not possible to verify what country the votes were made from for the poll, but in response to the results Elon Musk wrote above “thank you, Britain!”, framed with two Union Jack emojis.

Mr Musk also shared the poll again later, with the simple caption, LMAO, which means ‘laugh my ass off’, in text speak.

Sir Keir Starmer has defended his record of prosecuting child grooming gangs and said those “spreading misinformation are not interested in the victims”, as he remains locked in a row with Mr Musk.

The Tesla and X owner has launched a slew of social media posts attacking the Prime Minister in recent days, accusing him of being “complicit in the crimes” of child sex offenders as he called for a national investigation into child sexual abuse.

The PM has fought back, accusing Mr Musk and others of “spreading lies and misinformation”, and also saying “a line has been crossed” by the businessman when he described Home Office minister Jess Phillips as a “rape genocide apologist”.

The dispute follows weeks of hostile tweeting by Mr Musk, one of US President-elect Donald Trump’s top aides, in which he has criticised Sir Keir’s handling of the summer riots and expressed support for jailed far-right activist Tommy Robinson, whose real name is Stephen Yaxley-Lennon.

Writing for the Sun newspaper, Sir Keir defended his time working as England and Wales’ chief prosecutor between 2008 and 2013, the period when he lead the justice system as it began to prosecute child grooming gangs, and which has been a subject of Mr Musk’s attacks.

“My fight to change the way that the prosecution service operated is a matter of public record. Making sure the men responsible for these despicable acts were brought to justice. Put in the dock. Then behind bars,” the Prime Minister wrote.

“That is why I brought the first prosecution for a grooming gang. Far-right voices have tried to rewrite history,” he added.
